"As the twig is bent, so inclines the tree." Perhaps AGC had this old adage in mind when they decided to develop the Build Up! program. Through this program, thousands of fifth-grade students are learning about the exciting, rewarding and diverse career opportunities the construction industry has to offer. By exposing young students to the industry, AGC hopes to accomplish three main goals:

Restore a sense of pride to the industry: Students can learn about the basic principles of construction and about the structures that make up their world.

Demonstrate how the industry contributes to the students’ quality of life: The program focuses on environmental challenges including land-use considerations, energy efficient buildings, and real-life examples of how the construction industry contributes to the economy.

Provide a better understanding of the construction industry: Build Up! creates a receptive audience among the future builders, architects, engineers, mayors and council members of our towns and cities.

The Build Up! kit includes classroom exercises, learning guides, materials and take-home supplies for 60 students. Boys and girls learn about the many different careers in construction and go on "treasure hunts" around their schools to learn about the different building systems that are found in the school. They also get to create structures in class with different construction materials while studying the infrastructure they encounter every day. 

How much is the Build-Up! Tool Kit?
